Harry Montague Boon was born in Fordham on 13th January 1900 (Newmarket Q1-1900 3B:528), baptised in Fordham on 11th March 1900, the son of Harry and
Emma BOON (née GILBERT). 1901 census...Aged 1, he was at Mill Lane, Fordham with his father Harry [37] a builder; his mother Emma [42]; brother Bertie [11]; sisters Emma [9] and Phoebe Mary [6]. All were born in Fordham. He was admitted from Fordham Council School to Soham Grammar School on 27th April 1909, aged 9 years 2 months. He enlisted in Cambridge. 52nd (Graduated) Battalion: Up to 27 October 1917, this was known as 285th Graduated Battalion and had no regimental affiliation. Before that it had been 22nd Battalion of the Training Reserve.It was moved to Colchester around March 1918. He was in the King's Royal Rifle Corps from 26th July to 13rd August 1918, before transferring to the 3rd London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers). Having been in Salonika, the 3rd Battalion moved to France in July 1918 and joined 149th Brigade, 50th (Northumbrian) Division. Dying of his wounds and no Army records it is impossible to say exactly when or where Harry was wounded. Obviously it was serious enough to warrant transport to a rear area hospital.
